What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants themselves are small posts that are typically crafted from materials like titanium and zirconia due to their biocompatible nature. This means that they’re able to naturally fuse with the jawbone after being surgically placed below the gumline. As a result, they’re able to function like the roots of natural teeth, supplying the bone with blood flow and stimulation that keeps it from deteriorating with time, and providing a stable support system for any type of prosthetic to be attached to.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

- The first step of every dental implant procedure is a consultation. During this appointment, Dr. Q will examine your mouth, collect your dental and medical histories, and help determine whether dental implants are right for you. We will then develop a treatment plan if you decide you want to move forward with the dental implant process.
- Following your consultation and treatment planning, our team will help schedule your appointment with a specialist to surgically place your dental implants.
- For the following three to six months after your dental implant placement, your implants will fuse with your jawbone and your gums will heal. You’ll then return to the specialist to have small metal connector pieces attached to your dental implants, called abutments.
- Once your gums have healed around your abutments and your permanent prosthetic has been received from our dental laboratory, we’ll call you back in to attach it to your implants and finish the process!
